The wine routes
There are 14 wine routes in Tuscany, a circuit of vine-growers, farms and wineries that trace a fascinating route amongst nature, hilly landscapes, history, traditional handicrafts and shows to protect and encourage, through tastings, the appreciation of the excellent Tuscan wines and of the typical products of our land.
In the Certaldo area there is the Chianti Colli Fiorentini Wine Route and the Vernaccia di San Gimignano Wine Route. The first comprises 4 itineraries that can be covered in a weekend and which include the Florence hills and the municipalities that one finds along the way, that offer the opportunity to taste local wine and products and discover the gently sloping hills rich in vineyards, villas and castles.
The second wine route leads to the discovery of several red and white wines, the most well-known of which is the Vernaccia - mentioned by Dante in his Divine Comedy - as well as the superb extra virgin olive oil. The route goes through San Gimignano and surrounding towns in an evocative succession of hills, vineyards, Medieval towns and towers.
