Certaldo - Tour

Florence is situated a mere XX kilometres from Certaldo and is a town of great culture and tradition. A visit to Florence should, without doubt, take in the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Piazza della Repubblica, Piazza della Signoria, Piazza del Duomo and Giotto’s belltower.

Siena abounds in palazzi and buildings of great beauty and historical repute. The Palio di Siena takes place every summer in the Piazza del Campo. The Siennese have enjoyed and participated in this game every summer since 1964, and is followed by people all over the world. Horses and jockeys from the ten “contrade” (into which Siena is divided) have to run three laps around the square, about 1017 metres, when competing in this truly exceptional and thrilling event.

North of Certaldo is San Gimignano, a UNESCO heritage site for its history, culture and setting, and holds many monuments worth a visit. These include the Duomo, a Romanesque cathedral featuring beautiful frescos by Florentine artists, and the Palazzo del Popolo with its 14th century tower, one of the town’s most important monuments and home to the Civic Museum. Don’t miss also the Etruscan Museum and the Rocca di Montestaffioli, now down to a single tower from which you can spy the other towers in town.
