Chianti

The Chianti area in Tuscany

Hotel Certaldo is strategically placed in the middle of Tuscany, only a short drive from the Chianti area.

One of the to-do things in this area is undoubtedly the trip through the Chianti, with its sweet hills, dotted with charming Tuscan hamlets, all of this at only few kilometers away from Hotel Certaldo!

The Chianti area is one of the most famous in the whole world, very popular amongst visitors and tourists for the beauty of its landscape and most importantly, for the production of the Chianti wine, one of the most appreciated and praised wine in the world. The Chianti area has no specific boundaries, as the definition regards the whole area between the cities of Florence and Siena. This is why there is a further distinction between the Chianti Senese (Sienese Chianti) and the Chianti Fiorentino (Florentine Chianti).
The typical landscape of this area is characterized by sweet hills and slopes, vineyards and olive groves that stretch upon the land, little Tuscan hamlets hidden in the countryside, old farmhouses often converted into farms. The main and most famous towns of the Chianti area are Greve in Chianti and Panzano in Chianti (Florentine Chianti), Castellina in Chianti, Gaiole in Chianti, Radda in Chianti and Castelnuovo Berardenga (Sienese Chianti).

Aside from the small villages, the Chianti area also offers many beautiful castles to visit: Castello di Brolio, Castello di Meleto, Castello di Verrazzano.

Most of these castles, still maintaining their architectonic characteristics, have now been transformed into successful farmhouses producing the famous Chianti wine and the renowned extra virgin olive oil, as many other farms in the area. Amongst the activities offered by these facilities, you find the visits to their castles, wine and olive oil tastings, light lunches and dinners, cooking classes and much more! Our Staff here at Hotel Certaldo is glad to advise you on different itineraries in Chianti or one of the many guided tours through this area!

Hotel Certaldo Tips: stop at Antica Macelleria Cecchini (Checchini’s Old Butchery) in Panzano in Chianti, where the owner Dario Cecchini, famous butcher who was also on tv, offers traditional Tuscan dishes and the unmistakable Fiorentina steak in his restaurants Solociccia (Meatonly) and Officina della Bistecca (The Steak Workshop), obviously accompanied by a glass of wonderful Chianti Classico!

For our guests who would like to taste many of the wines produced in the Chianti area, we gladly advise the wonderfully stocked Enoteca Falorni (Falorni’s Wine Shop), in the main square of Greve in Chianti, where you can find more than 1000 labels from the local area!
